Nutrition and Alcohol
Hi guys, it took a long time since I posted this story. It is an interview with a friend of mine who stopped drinking and was able to build an impressive physique in several months. At the end of the interview, I asked him for nutrition tips, and he was kind enough to write about his experience.
By quitting drinking alcohol, you will do your body a favor in many ways.
The advantage from a toxicological standpoint is obvious. But what about all the unhealthy food we consume after a binge? I guess it is safe to say nearly nobody watches his nutrition consumption during or after a drinking orgy. Aside from the fact that alcohol contains a lot of toxins, it also contains a lot of calories. So you harm your body in several ways by drinking and eating unhealthy most of the time.
Who does not know the pleasure of binge-eating cheesy, meaty, fatty stuff after a good booze?
According to the National Institutes of Health, obesity and overweight together are the second leading cause of preventable death in the United States, close behind comes the use of tobacco. An estimated 300,000 deaths per year are due to the obesity epidemic. This is true for nearly every western country.
Imagine how big of a favor you do to your body and mind by replacing alcohol and fast food with sports and healthy nutrition. It can lead to many more years of living and living at a much higher quality.
So which products exactly are healthy?
Often times the media make you think it is really complicated, elaborate and costly to eat healthy even though it REALLY is not. It is just a clever marketing strategy to make you buy expensive courses and “superfood”. Here is just a brief overview:
Green Vegetables: more specific cruciferous / cabbage family, all containing great micro nutrients with great potential to prevent cancer. (Broccoli, all types of cabbage, kohlrabi, radish)
Legumes: Lenses, Chickpeas, Beans of all types contain a lot of vegetable protein alongside with fiber and complex carbs.
