Great things happening in sobriety.

“Avoid using cigarettes, alcohol, and drugs as alternatives to being an interesting person.”
― Marilyn vos Savant

Are you still drinking? Are you sober or are you participating in Dry January?

This text is an advertisement for sobriety. A salute to the benefits of brain recovery and clear thoughts.

Since going sober 10 months ago, I did not expect such a huge difference in my brain capacity. I never thought I had problems in that area, I just told myself I am functioning very well even if intoxicated or hungover.

Ten month later, being here and being now, I realize that was a huge misconception. There was a reason I could not keep at a project longer than three months or keep learning one topic for long periods of time.

This all has changed dramatically since I don’t drink anymore. I had to fill up the added time with new activities. I started to read and learn more and go for hikes. All this activities and the great sleep quality are adding up to the brain recovery.

The positive benefits are:

  • I can build on top what I have learned or on the projects that I am building.
  • I don’t destroy learning momentum with drinking blenders and hangovers.
  • Furthermore, I can keep conversations longer and try to be a better listener (still working on that)
  • I don’t shy away from harder concepts in learning.
  • I know what I said yesterday and to whom I said that.

It is like the brain is rewarding me for leaving out the toxins. After years of self-sabotage, it feels like I am finally in a positive cycle.

If you are still thinking about going sober, don’t buy this bottles anymore, buy a book instead.
