How I used to spend Part #1

Coming from a background of mindlessly overspending to a healthy relationship with money, I am going to write about my tactics to keep more money. This is going to be Part 1 reflecting on the mistakes I made in the past.

In my 20s, I was very horrible with handling my money. Everything that came in went out immediately, and all of that just for personal entertainment and self-destruction. As soon as money came in I started to drive in cabs, order food, make party and go shopping for the newest clothes. I was able to think for one month ahead. If the salary was enough to get over one month, I was set, and it was time to chill and spend.

Luckily, I wasn’t into consumer credits for electronics or cars. My vices were entertainment, intoxication and a naive laziness in general.

For several years I was in credit-card debt of €1500-€2000. I thought this was money that belonged to me and I always spend that to the maximum. Considering the high interest rates, this was a disaster. Living on the edge like that, my calculations often didn’t play out. Because of my overspending, I had to go to my landlord three times and tell him I couldn’t afford to pay rent this month.

Because some bills were taken from my bank account automatically, and I wasn’t able to pay, I got a letter and a phone call from a lady working in the bank. This letter changed my life and the way I handle money forever.

I am going to write about that in Part 2.
