When I was deep in my drinking habits, I had terrible hangovers. At the end stages of my drinking journey, my typical hangovers lasted two and a half days. There was no way, I would creep out of bed on the first day being hungover. Depending on whether I was forced to go to a 9–5 job or not, I often stayed in bed for the second day too.

If it was unavoidable, I was able to function on the second day. A feeling of emptiness, a pale face and an irritated mind were accompanying me on those days. I appeared like a ghost bathed in self-pity.

I had drinking streaks, where I had such a hangover every week, four weeks in a row. That means, I wasted two and a half-days every week. Summing it up for a whole month, that were ten whole days wasted. Days completely devoted to alcohol.

I think, the hangovers were one of the biggest reasons, why I wasn’t drinking daily. The soul crushing headache, the pressure on the eyes and a throat horribly dry and irritated. That was just to much.

All those days were wasted, no way to get them back. I still remember the feeling when the hangover was finally gone. It was like I was hearing the birds whispering again. Just feeling normal, being healthy and breathe! It was such a liberating feeling.

Things have changed guys, I don’t have hangovers anymore. I can do what I want day by day. Not a single day is wasted. Can you imagine? How many days are that in one year ? All the things that can be experienced and created.

Even if I lay in bed the whole day, at least I regenerate properly. Being lazy one day is actually beneficial for me now. That is one of the biggest advantages for me in sobriety. With no hangovers you win time, the most valuable resource we have.

If you are here, reading this and trying to get sober. Keep on trying. It is worth it !!
