No Social Media for 30 Days
After I realized my Youtube consumption was getting out of control, I decided to make a plan and fight back.
I used several techniques and rules to keep away from the public network. 30 days passed, and I just scratched on the surface of all the benefits .
After thinking about my consumption , I came up with the following questions.
- What are you looking for exactly when you turn on Facebook, Insta, Youtube ?
- Are you learning, communicating or entertaining yourself ?
- Do you realize how much time you spend on this platforms ?
- What are the exact advantages you gain by this surf-sessions ?
After cleaning my mind from the platforms, the answer was easy.
I do not need any of this. This is not a necessity, this is mostly entertainment. It can feel productive to watch tutorials but it is mostly self-deception.
The advantages of reducing social media:
- More time
- Freedom of thought
- More confidence in who you are and what you do
The disadvantages :
- It is harder to stay in contact with a lot of people.
- Missing out on interesting content.
I never had a day where I thought ( “What a bad day, I wish I surfed a lot more on Facebook or Youtube )
There were countless days where I thought: ( “ While scrolling up and down, time has passed very fast. What did I actually accomplish today ? )
There should be a way to make use of the benefits, without falling into hours of infinite scrolling.
- Saving interesting Tutorials, Videos for later learning.
- Organize time to communicate and for entertainment.
It is not easy for me to resist the temptation to “just have a little look”. From time to time I did give in, but my awareness to this moments grew a lot.
30 Days are not enough to break this mighty habit. I feel I am on the right path with this . My goal for now is, no consumption of social media until 6pm. I will write about my experiences with it here. (Shutting down the brain and letting the algorithms take over)← This is my humor.
