Two Cans And A Fridge #2
Unbelievable, I have two cans of beer at home, and I am not drinking them. Here is the evidence.
My girlfriend also did not drink them, she told me she doesn’t feel the need to drink alone. I guess I have a positive influence. How do you even do that, having beer at home and not drink it?
When I was still drinking I tried a great deal of “moderation techniques”.
1. Only one day at the weekend.
2. Only one beer after work.
3. Buying small quantities. (only to get more later)
4. Don’t drink before the party.
5. Wait some hours at social gatherings before I start.
6. Leaving the company parties early. (Avoiding doing something stupid)
I even hid beer in my bike shed. I thought by removing temptation, I would drink less automatically. In my opinion I was building “Atomic Habits”.
Not a single one of these techniques worked. They worked up to three weeks. In these periods I was feeling like a person that can handle alcohol, only to find myself back in the trap again. The cycle continued like an endless loop.
One thing really works for me. Never drink! There is no planing, no failing, no hiding, no back and forth. It is so much easier, it is unbelievable. The alcohol industry is hating that trick!
When you are trying to moderate for the 100th time, maybe it is time to put the bottle aside.
